Care Card History
In the Fall of 1999, three friends and members of The Board of Visitors took a trip to Dallas to research a shopping event fundraiser. After a two-day whirlwind of shopping and dining at 20% off for charity, they knew they needed to bring this fundraiser to the Phoenix area!
The Board of Visitors began its tradition of service to the Phoenix community as visitors to the patients at St. Luke’s Home, a tuberculosis sanatorium, in 1908. Over the next eight-six years, The BOV members were involved with the patients and families as St. Luke’s grew into a modern medical facility. In 1995, when St. Luke’s Health system sold to a for-profit corporation, The BOV continued to serve the community independently raising and granting funds to deserving nonprofit agencies that mirror the mission of The Board of Visitors: to serve the healthcare needs of women, children and the elderly.
